Sunday Community Day Cancelled

Each year we listen to the WordPress community in Central Ohio to know the type of sessions we should prepare for our WordCamp. We thought that this was a good year to launch a Community Day, where guests learn how to participate in the WordPress project itself, and network with another in a more casual environment than Camp is on Saturday. It seems though that this is not the year to introduce this just yet, as we’re seeing that few have registered for that day of the event. To that end, we’re cancelling Sunday of WordCamp and focusing on Friday and Saturday. If you’re really interested in learning about how to give back to WordPress, go ahead and let us know and we’ll make sure you get connected with the right people in Ohio to help you do that.

Register now!
WordCamp Columbus returns for its sixth year, offering two days of workshops and sessions for WordPress users, developers and businesses in Central Ohio. Registration/Checkin each day will begin at 9AM.

  • Friday (10AM – 5PM) includes a dedicated workshop for beginners, helping you set up and start using your website from scratch. Compusuites
  • Saturday (10AM – 5PM) includes sessions for all types of WordPress users and an after-party.  Compusuites

A “Happiness Bar” will be available throughout the day on Saturday for those who would like to ask specific questions about their website to a WordPress developer. Your ticket includes both days, snacks, lunch, the after-party and much more!

  • Two-day admission to WordCamp Columbus.
  • A WordCamp Columbus 2014 T-shirt

Volunteers are the backbone of any great WordCamp. You’ll be helping to make our event run as smoothly as possible, ensuring a fun time is had by all. Plus, it’s a great way to get more involved in the WordPress community! If you’re interested in volunteering, please read the information below, and let us know how you’d like to help out in the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Volunteers will be asked to work the event for at least four hours, which entitles them to a free event ticket for the whole weekend (subject to volunteer needs and availability). You are, of course, welcome to volunteer for more than four hours, but please be sure to take some time to enjoy the event! Here are the roles we’re looking to fill:

We’ll need help getting everything set up the night before everything begins. From folding t-shirts to alphabetizing name tags, it’s all in the details. This will be limited to 8-10 people, so please choose another volunteer role as well to make sure you get to volunteer.

The Registration Desk will serve as our home base throughout the event, but the main need here is early morning set up and registration. We’ll need help setting up signs, and the registration area. Once registration begins in the morning, we’ll need well-organized volunteers to ensure smooth check-ins and keep lines and waiting times short.

Do you love talking or want experience talking to groups of people? For this position we want people who want the microphone in their hand. Our emcees will introduce speakers, keep speakers aware of the time, and help attendees with general event questions. For this role, you’d be assigned to one room for your four-hour time block.

Questions always come up, or maybe something is needed and someone needs to run and get it. This person will be the one who can deliver!

We need an audio/video guru for each of our session rooms. This position is an all-day position so we can keep the video quality high and consistent from one session to the next throughout the day. Video kits, including cameras, SD cards, and lavalier mics will be provided.

Do you like helping others to learn how to use WordPress? We need WordPress experts to help man the Happiness Bar. Users of all levels will come to you for help with their websites. It’s a great way to give back to the community and see what people are doing with WordPress as the same time!

A photography maestro will capture all the people, sights, and happenings of WordCamp Columbus 2014. We need a volunteer willing to use their own camera and contribute the photos to the WordCamp Columbus community to use.

Our all-purpose all-stars will be filling in where they are needed most. We need people to willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

We need a handful of our volunteers to stay a bit late to help clean up and pack stuff up each night, and particularly on Saturday.

How to Volunteer

If, after reading all of that, you still want to become a volunteer, just fill out this form, and we’ll get in touch.
